LINCOLN — Data from the U.S. Census shows that nearly a third of Nebraska’s 93 counties recorded population growth in the last five years.
Researchers at the University of Nebraska-Omaha say this is the most widespread growth since the early 1990’s. 29 counties showed inflated populations between 2010 and 2015. That compares to 24 counties in the five years before that and 18 from 2000-2005.
Even with the growth, more than half of Nebraska’s residents live in the three county metropolitan area around Lincoln and Omaha.
