NORTH LOUP — The Davis Creek campsites are set to expand.
A committee with the Lower Loup NRD approved the addition of 42 campsites, as well as adding electrical service to the area.
The decision was a 9-6 vote with some concern over how congestion will be tackled. For example, if campsites are expanded before an additional boat ramp is put in.
Overall, though, the growing popularity of the site is the biggest driver for Larry Schultz and the rest of the district. “What we have done is try to look at expansion in a sensible way that would allow more people to utilize the lake and utilize the campgrounds without parking in the grass, parking in the road, because the sites that we use are almost filled every weekend,” he explains.
It’s still early in the process and much is still unknown. This includes a cost and when the project will be completed. Both of those will be answered once bids are awarded.
The Davis Creek Recreation Area is located about five miles south of North Loup near the Valley/Greeley County line.
