LINCOLN — Nebraska lawmakers have given a bill initial approval that would change how the state draws legislative congressional districts.
The measure creates an independent commission to draw the maps, which would need to be approved by lawmakers and the governor.
The current process requires a legislative committee to propose new boundaries once every decade following the census. Those are then approved by lawmakers and the governor.
This system has been criticized for being too partisan.
