LINCOLN — A bill that would allow young immigrants who were brought to the country illegally to receive professional licenses has advanced to a final vote in the Nebraska Legislature.
This despite the threat of a veto from Governor Ricketts.
The measure would apply to youths who were allowed to stay inthe U.S. under the federal Deferred Action Program.
Supporters say this allows these people to serve as teachers, nurses and in other professions requiring a license. On the other side, opponents say it rewards law-breaking parents who brought children across illegally.
