ORD — Some Ord residents will receive a survey in the mail this week to help assist the city.
Ord is looking to apply for funding to pave roads through the federal Community Development Block Program.
“We haven’t paved since basically downtown or Speedies was the last block that we did so it’s been approximately ten years before we’ve done a big project,” says Ord Utility Superintendent Paul Markowski. “That was on the council’s wishes to get caught up on our debt a little bit and now that we’ve caught up a little bit it’s time to fix up some streets, again,”
The grant is worth up to $250,000 and needs to be used on a designated region. The program covers specificaly low-income areas.
Ord’s target area covers east of 14th street and extends as far as 5th street at its southeast most point. It also extends north past Nebraska Highway 70 and west to the most north part of 19th street.
Roughly 200 residents are in the blocked out area. The city is hoping to receive every survey back because those not received count against it when applying for this grant.
Any money received must be used the this blocked out area, but that doesn’t mean that the entire area will be paved at once or that other pavement projects across the city will not be done in the near future.
