LINCOLN — An assembly for the Nebraska School Activities Association failed to get enough votes to change a transgender policy adopted in January.
This means students will not be required to play in the sport of their gender at birth.
The January policy allows students who want to play sports the ability to do so according to their expressed gender. They must show they’ve taken steps to change genders.
The gender-at-birth effort fell six votes short of what was needed.
The decision was criticized by the Nebraska Family Alliance which says “It will not be the final word on this issue”.
