NORFOLK — A man sentenced to life in prison in Norfolk in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend has been denied his request to be released from prison.
Leodan Alarcon-Chavez was convicted in 2011 of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say he stabbed Maria Villareal in her apartment while awaiting trial for threatening to kill her.
Alarcon-Chavez claimed in the request that his attorney was ineffective and prosecutors engaged in misconduct.
The judge said he failed to prove some allegations and others were without merit.
