WASHINGTON, D.C. — Small airports throughout Nebraska stand to benefit from a bill moving through Washington.
A provision in the measure is being pushed by Senator Deb Fischer that would provide protection to regional airports from certain economic restrictions.
“These airports are being threatened by new rules that are directing resources away from small airports and toward major hubs like Denver and Atlanta,” says Fischer. “Our bill ensures that small airports receive an exemption from this regulation.”
This goes hand-in-hand with a similar bill championed in the House by Third-District Congressman Adrian Smith.
The Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island would stand to benefit from the proposal. It recently opened a $15 million terminal last month and has plans for expansion within the next decade.
