GRAND ISLAND — Racehorses have been quarantined at Fonner Park in Grand Island after three tested positive for equine herpes.
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture says one of them has been euthanized, but the remaining two are getting better with treatment.
Under the quarantine, around 800 horses at the park can’t leave for at least 21 days. Fonner will hold off on races until May 7th, but the horses in the same bard as the three infected will not be allowed to race.
Symptoms of equine herpes include fever, decreased coordination, hind limb weakness, and inability to rise.
