GRAND ISLAND — Restrictions on 25 additional horses in a second barn at Grand Island’s Fonner Park has been lifted, the day after they were put on.
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture announced the restrictions Friday afternoon after horse in the barn exhibited signs of equine herpes.
The restrictions were lifted after test results showed the horse did not have the illness.
The race track is under quarantine after three other horses tested positive for equine herpes. One has been euthanized and two are being treated.
The more than 700 horses can’t leave until the minimum 21-day quarantine is lifted.
Fonner plans to continue races on May 7th, but horse under quarantine will be banned from participating.
