ORD — Area kids stopped by the Valley County Fairgrounds this week for a petting zoo hosted by the Ord FFA.
The annual event is set up to give children the opportunity to learn about animals they might not normally come into contact with.
Tyler Spilinek advises the Ord FFA and says each person, on average, is three generations removed from the farm. “That’s on average so you could have some that are four or five generations even removed from the farm and never get to see these animals,” he explains.
“There are some kids who haven’t picked up little baby kittens before, they have a cat, but to see baby kittens, that’s something a lot of us take for granted,” Spilinek adds.
The day is also a benefit to the high school students in the FFA. Spilinek says they gain public speaking skills and the opportunity to show their agricultural knowledge.
