ORD — In an effort to move and pave a road between Ord and North Loup, Valley County is having to deal with a railroad crossing.
That’s proving to be more difficult than originally thought.
The 811th Road is located off of Route 11. The county conducted a survey last year as part of a paving effort with a new business causing more truck traffic in the area. This survey found the road was off of its intended line and supposed to be shifted toward the south.
The county received what it believes to be the wrong agreement with the railroad, in which it would pay the cost to have it moved and for the maintenance.
The cost to move it was about $70,000.
This all happens as the board thought the County Surveyor, Olsson Associates, was dealing with the railroad since last fall.
Valley County plans to get additional information from Union Pacific about the issue and know more by the end of the month.
