The Valley County Sheriff’s Office along with the Nebraska State Patrol, has arrested Joceylyn M. Nordin, a female from North Loup, Nebraska, for felony child abuse. Nordin was arrested on May 5 2016 in Omaha with the assistance of the US Marshalls and the Nebraska State Patrol. Nordin is currently being held in the Custer County jail on a $150,000 bond
Jocelyn M. Nordin also known as Jozy Nordin of North Loup has been charged with felony child abuse resulting in death, which carries a maximum of life in prison and a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison.
Nordin called 911 on May 2nd and reported her 4 week old daughter was not breathing. Her daughter was transported to Valley County Health System and then trasported to Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Doctors advised Valley County Sheriff Casey Hulburt that it was a definite case of child abuse. Nordin made the a statement to the sheriff that she had accidentally dropped the baby, and after more questioning she admitted to shaking the baby and dropping her because she wouldn’t stop crying.

Elayna Rose Nordin Sherman, one month old, of North Loup, Nebraska went to be an angel with Jesus on May 9, 2016 at Childrens Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Chalk Hills Community Church in Scotia, Nebraska. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor
Jeremiah Knoop will officiate. Memorials are suggested to Royal Family Kids Camp. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Elayna was born April 4, 2016 at Kearney, Nebraska to Jocelyn Nordin and Turner Sherman. Elayna means Shining Light. She was a bright spot in the day to everyone who met her, especially grandma Linda and Uncle Travis, Aunt Dawn and their family. One of her favorite times was rocking with grandma.
Elayna is survived by her father and mother. Grandma Linda Kovarik of North Loup. Her sister, Lorelai Sherman of Kearney and her brother, Genesis Huff of Omaha. Her Uncle Travis and Dawn Kovarik of Kearney and cousins Destiny, Lane and Sadie Kovarik and Alyssa and Cale Spellman of Kearney and Trissa and Cydnie Wilson of Hershey and numerous relatives and friends.
