ORD — This week, the Golden Husk is hosting a performance group from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The “Marriage of Figaro” is making a stop in Ord along its tour of rural Nebraska. Other stops include Friend and Red Cloud.
William Shonos directs the production and says the Golden Husk is perfect for the opera. “It’s an amazing place,” he says. “I actually got up here in March and saw it for the first time. Visually, it’s very interesting, it’s very attractive,”
“I love the intimacy of the space,” Shonos adds. “That was one of the things I insisted on in our tour is that we not do opera in huge theaters where people are going to be far away from the stage. I wanted close proximity between the performers and the audience.”
Shonos hand selects the students for the performance and they’re not shy about giving back. High school kids came by to learn about opera and performance at a few of the stops. This includes music students from Ord.
