MADISON — The Madison County Election Commissioner says enough signatures have been gathered to force a recall election of the mayor of Madison.
The group collected 229, 59 more than required.
The situation arose after Mayor Alvin Brandl was criticized for his appointments to city boards. A document filed in Madison County says he should be recalled because his conduct in appointing officials has resulted in needless conflict, confrontation and an inability of the city to function properly.
The Madison City Council must order a special election to be held within the next 30 to 75 days unless Brandl resigns.
