LINCOLN — An advocacy group has released a report that shows $15.6 million was spent by special interest groups in an effort to influence Nebraska state government officials in the past year.
Common Cause Nebraska says that is the largest amount ever spent. It topped 2015’s mark of $14.5 million and 2014’s of $13 million.
In addition, the number of groups that hire lobbyists hit a record high.
Common Cause Nebraska’s chairman believes a way to combat this lobbying is to increase lawmaker’s salaries.
