ORD — The Valley County Board of Supervisors voted this week to look further into becoming livestock friendly.
The state certification is given after a county applies and meets zoning standards that are welcoming to the livestock industry.
Currently, there are no financial benefits to going livestock friendly. However, It is a message to out-of-state companies that the county may be favorable to set up in. The decision was a 6-1 vote, with some concern over a state bureaucracy overreaching into counties.
As part of the process, the county has to submit zoning regulations to the state to ensure they are compatible with the designation. In addition, each municipality in the county must be in support.
The Board of Supervisors hopes to know more at its June 14th meeting.
