ORD — The Nebraska Public Power District plans to begin easement acquisition as part of the Muddy Creek-Ord Transmission Line project.
The 115,000-volt line will run from a new substation near Broken Bow to an existing one near Ord. That covers about 40 miles and is intended to avoid blackouts, like what hit the area in 2012.
The final line route was announced in October and, since then, NPPD has been obtaining right-of-entry agreements. This gives the district temporary access to property for preliminary work before the easement is acquired.
The hope is to begin construction in September with the line up and running in summer of 2018.
