KEARNEY — The Buffalo County Sheriff’s office has identified those involved in a shooting and car chase in Kearney on Sunday night.
The incident occurred when 35-year-old Jose Klich and Kearney police officer Derek Payton had a confrontation. Gunshots erupted and Klich drove away. Payton then chased after him and collided with an uninvolved vehicle driven by 25-year-old Mattie Davis, just before Klich rammed into a building.
All three, along with Klich’s passenger Amanda Journey, were taken to the hospital. Payton was treated and released.
