Jocelyn M. Nordin appeared in District Court in Valley County, Tuesday morning. (10/18/16) Nordin’s attorney Mr. Boarders requested a PR bond, stating that Nordin had been offered a job in Kearney, where she could also receive mental health treatment.
The state argued that Nordin had previously been convicted and incarcerated in connection to another child of her’s.
Judge Noakes agreed with the state and denied bond.
Nordin is currently being held in York County jail. Nordin is charged with felony child abuse in the death of her one month daughter Elayna Rose Nordin Sherman of North Loup. Nordin could face a minimum of 20 years to a maximum of life in prison.
Nordin called 911 on May 2nd of 2016 and reported her 4 week old daughter was not breathing. Doctors advised Valley County Sheriff Casey Hulburt that it was a definite case of child abuse. Nordin made a statement to the sheriff that she had accidentally dropped the baby, and then admitted to shaking the baby and dropped her because she wouldn’t stop crying.
