There are currently two fires burning in central Nebraska. Local Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, volunteer Fire Departments and volunteers are working hard to contain the flames.
One fire is located south and west of Loup City in Sherman County. Fire departments from Scotia, North Loup, Loup City, Arcadia, Ord, Comstock and Ashton are working to fight this fire. Homes have been evacuated South of Setliks feedlot. Trail #12 at Sherman Reservoir and the North side of the Sherman Reservoir have been evactuated as well. This is a very fast moving fire. The Loup City Community Center is open now to those who have been evacuated. Law enforcement is calling for volunteers with four-wheelers to help battle the blaze. If you would like to volunteer, contact the Valley County Sheriff’s Office at 308-728-3906. They are also asking for any onlookers to leave the area. With the fast pace of the fire they do not want anyone hanging around watching.
The Taylor fire is located 6 miles North East of Taylor and has burned a large area already. The fire departments from Sargent, Taylor, Burwell, Ericson and Anselmo are battling this blaze which is also moving rapidly. If you are near the area that is being affected by the fires. Law Enforcement is advising onlookers to please stay out of the area. This is not just for the firefighters safety but for yours as well.
