Local College Athletes Promote Rodeo as College Student Directors
The NIRA organization is over fifty years old and boasts eleven regions across the United States.
Shane Weber, of Burwell, serves as the Saddle Bronc director for the Great Plains region and Rowdy Moon, of Taylor is the Bareback director in the Great Plains. Both are students at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, Nebraska. The pair are no strangers to leadership roles in rodeo as they served as directors in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association previously. As directors, Shane and Rowdy must be present in the arena for each performance of their event, answer questions, work with the rodeo judges, field rules challenges by athletes, know the collegiate rules, obtain sponsorships and serve as a liaison between cowboys and judges.
The Mid-Plains Community College team recently began their spring rodeo season with an event in Brookings, South Dakota hosted by South Dakota State University. Rowdy is second in the Bareback Riding and Shane is sixth in the Saddle Bronc Riding in the Great Plains Region. The Mid-Plains Community College Mens team is currently leading the Great Plains Region team standings
