The Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team scored two first place finishes during the 59th annual University of Nebraska Lincoln Rodeo on Friday and Saturday in Lincoln.
Kris Rasmussen, of Riverdale, won the steer wrestling, and Rowdy Moon, of Sargent, tied for first in the bareback riding.
In the team roping, Rhett O’Connor, of Paxton, placed third, Wyatt Killion, of Ainsworth, came in fifth and Riley Weehler, of Maloy, Iowa, ended up sixth.
Mara Christian, of Elwood, was also sixth in the breakaway roping.
MPCC finished the weekend third in the men’s team standings.
Dustin Elliott, MPCC Rodeo Team rough stock coach, said the competition was a rebound from the South Dakota State University rodeo the week before. “Even though we placed second in the men’s team standings at SDSU, we competed better overall at UNL,” said Elliott. “We just have to keep grinding and finish the next three weeks strong. We’re in a great position to bring home a regional team title.”
