Going home with nothing from the Nebraska Junkathon this weekend may be a sin.
The third annual Nebraska Junkathon, an event filled with antique and food vendors, will be Friday through Sunday in Sargent.
Event organizers Dave and Tami Thompson are looking forward to another busy event.
Last year, it just blossomed, Dave said. Im just praying that this year does the same.
The second Junkathon brought people from many different places, and he hopes this years event does the same.
Dave said last year he saw people come from Denver and even one woman from Canada, who passed through on her way to see her kids in Kansas. The people from Denver bought a gazebo and fence, and the Canadian woman bought a china hutch.
If people can drive here within five hours, they will, Dave said.
The event will have a variety of food vendors, including new ones. Cheese pretzels, steak sandwiches and homemade pies will be among the food items available for purchase.
Dave is on the board for the Nebraska Junk Jaunt, a similar event, so he is familiar with the scene. He said the Junkathon gives antique vendors another place to go to sell their things. Hes most excited to see all the people from different walks of life at this years event. He said younger people come and want different things than others may be seeking. Its interesting to see what people are looking for, he said.
Among the available items will be windmills, chaps, spurs, weather vanes, garden carts, wood stoves, signs and old cast iron. If people are looking for items to fill a man cave, he said, Junkathon will be the place to find it and many other things. Dave said some vendors were coming to town to set up two days in advance.
Its going to be bigger than Junk Jaunt, Dave said. If you go home with an empty pickup, its a sin. Theres plenty to go around.
The event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Sargent near Main Street. Sundays hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
