Children between the ages of 3 and 18 in Nebraska still have the chance to register for the Read to Win $529! Drawing. Registration deadline is August 23. The $529 goes towards a Nebraska Educational Savings Trust (NEST) college savings account for the winners.
Children and teens who register for the summer reading program in their local libraries will automatically be entered in the Read to Win $529! Drawing. Readers must complete the summer reading program requirements of the local library before they can be entered into the drawing.
Five summer readers from each of the states three congressional districts will be chosen on September 15. Those winners will be recognized at the Capitol this fall.
In addition to those who win, a contribution of $250 will be given to the library where each winner registered.
Last summer, almost 11,000 entries were received according to the Nebraska State Treasurer’s office, First National Bank and Nebraska Library Commission who are partnered together to sponsor NEST Read to Win $529! Drawing.
The $529 amount relates to Section 529 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, which allows for tax savings for owners of accounts in state-sponsored 529 college savings programs like NEST.
Contest rules are available at www.NEST529.com or https://treasurer.nebraska.gov/csp/scholarships/.
