The University of Nebraska Kearney Pride of the Plains Marching Band has released its schedule for the 2017 football season. They start right away on UNKs Aug. 31 football game against Missouri Western.
The band will play for all home games on Foster Field and is scheduled to travel with the team to Emporia State on Sept. 7. In addition to these performances, they will march in the annual UNK Band Day Parade and Bearcat Marching Festival on Sept. 23 as well as for the Sept. 16 UNK Homecoming Parade. Kearney High School will be hosting Nebraska State Bandmasters Association State Marching Contest where UNK Pride of the Plains will perform an exhibition for the high school bands.
Show themes for the 2017 season include music from Fantasia and musicals West Side Story, Les Misrables and The Sound of Music.
The band is under the direction of Brian Alber. The drumline instructor and Director of Bands is Duane Bierman, and the color guard coordinator is Adrienne Rall. Drum Majors are Bethany Freeling of Grand Island and Alyssa Olsen of Lexington.
