Sen. Deb Fischer’s Office
WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released a statement on the 16th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack:
Sixteen years after the September 11 terrorist attack, our nation unites once again to honor the Americans killed that horrific day. Haunting images of burning towers, a crumbling structure of the Pentagon, and a smoking field in Pennsylvania, all come rushing back to us. Scenes of this dark day in history that drastically changed the course of this nation are forever etched in our memory.
But 9/11 did not change who we are or the values we hold so dear. Amidst the heartbreak and devastation, our citizens showed abounding courage, kindness, and love of country. In New York City, Arlington, and a scarred field in Shanksville, American flags were placed atop the rubble as symbols of proof that evil cannot break us.
We will always remember the innocent lives lost in the attack. There will forever be gratitude in our hearts to the brave first responders who ran toward, not away from, danger to help those in need. The significant work of the men and women of STRATCOM during this national emergency will not be forgotten.
Year after year, this day is a reminder of tragedy and tears, but also of the strength and resolve of the citizens of the greatest country on Earth. Though the threats to our way of life have and will continue to evolve, our enduring commitment to defending freedom will never waver.
