Keep Loup Basin Beautiful is taking old, broken, unwanted bicycles and reviving them through the Bicycle Recycle & Safety Program. The bikes will be fixed by Gary Hughes of Lincoln, NE.
Mr. Hughes and wife, Lynne, visit Burwell regularly to visit family, and the bicycles collected in between visits travel back to Lincoln with them. Hughes takes the bikes to his workshop where he makes them ride-able again.
Some bicycles do not need much of anything other than cleaned up, states Mr. Hughes.
After the bikes are fixed they travel to the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln for any youth who would like a bike, but cannot afford one.
Gary has always been a fixer and creator ever since I have known him and this was a perfect project to ask him to be a part of, states his daughter-in-law, Amy Hughes, KLBB Project Coordinator.
