The University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced Thursday afternoon they have begun to search for a new director of athletics after outing athletic director Shawn Eichorst.
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, University Chancellor Ronnie Green stated, Shawn has led Nebraska Athletics in many positive ways, but those efforts have not translated into on-field performance
Eichorst was taken on as AD in October 2012 and has about $1.7 million remaining on a contract running through June 2019.
Green and University President Hank Bounds spoke with Husker coaches on Thursday to discuss the decision of terminating Shawn Eichorst, effective immediately.
The university will appoint an interim athletic director to oversee daily activity of Nebraska Athletics until a permanent replacement is hired.
Green will hold a news conference at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
