On Friday, September 29, Ord Elementary School hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to the new Project Fit America fitness play ground installed.
After receiving a $16,500 grant from Project Fit America, the elementary began construction on the new installation as well as other equipment used for physical education.
Principal Doug Smith talked about Project Fit America, which is a program used to help promote fitness in schools and communities across America, “…it strengthens our partnership from our community to our students and our school to get fit.”
Senator Tom Briese and community member Matt Woodward were asked to speak at the presentation Friday regarding fitness and healthy lifestyles.
“I’m thoroughly impressed with the facility here, and the new Project Fit Facilities, but overall they have a great group of staff and kids. I felt honored to speak, it was my pleasure to be here and I am very happy to be apart of it,” says Sen. Briese.
After the ribbon cutting, students demonstrated with the Elementary P.E. instructor, Dexter Goodner, on how to use the facility. Each different station had multiple ways to use it as well as more than one occupant at the same time.
Others who helped make the new facility possible for the elementary was: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, Project Fit America and Educators Health Alliance.
The outdoor equipment was installed by G3 Contracting, Plains Equipment, SACK Lumber, Ord FFA and Ord Elementary staff.
