Over the weekend, five vehicles were stolen in Grand Island. One was recovered in Council Bluffs, Iowa, one was set on fire and another turned up in an Adams County cornfield.
A 2004 Mercedes was taken from a car lot by a woman who wasnt whom she claimed to be.
The vehicle recovered in Council Bluffs was a 2010 Chevy Equinox owned by Ray Marian, who reported the theft at 9:07 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle was parked at Pumpers, 1904 N. Diers Ave. Taking the vehicle was a male who was a customer at the store.
The Equinox was found at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in Council Bluffs and according to the Grand Island Police, Latika Goodwin was referred to the Hall County Attorneys office for obstructing a police officers. Deontrae Hulett was referred for motor vehicle theft.
On Saturday afternoon a vehicle owned by Casey Jurgens of Grand Island was recovered by the Adams County Sheriffs Department in a cornfield south of the Hall-Adams county line.
The car set on fire belongs to Jason Anson. It was taken at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday and was located after being set on fire outside city limits.
Another car was taken from Turbo Auto Sales, 410 N. Broadwell, Sunday afternoon by a woman who also committed identity theft. The woman presented a Nebraska drivers license belonging to Kabrina Wescoat. The woman took a 2004 Mercedes C230K for a test drive. The woman was not Wescoat, who had her drivers license stolen from her vehicle Nov. 19. The Mercedes was later recovered in an alley west of North Front Street and Boggs.
The fifth vehicle stolen belongs to Alecia Kluver. She was contacted in regard to found property. During the police contact, it was determined that her vehicle had also been stolen. The case is still under investigation.
