Interstate 80 westbound lanes were closed for a short time between Waco and Utica on Tuesday morning after a very serious accident causing multiple fatalities, according to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP).
Authorities reported four people died in the collision between a pickup truck and a semi trailer at 7:15 am Tuesday.
York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff said three of those killed were male and one was female. The names of those involved and other details about the collision have not been released.
The accident is being under investigation as it is still unclear if weather conditions played a role. Caution is still being urged by troopers after the crash occurred, saying the road in the area is very icy.
Westbound I-80 traffic was diverted at the Utica exit for nearly three hours, with vehicles allowed back on the interstate at the Waco exit.
