Lincoln, NE – With the basketball season coming to an end last weekend, Nebraska School Activities Association placed its 2018 NSAA Distinguished Service Awards to nine recipients.
University of Nebraska at Kearney Chancellor Doug Kristensen was among those recognized by the NSAA with this prestigious award.
He was given the NSAAs Distinguished Service Award at Saturdays state basketball tournament in Lincoln for his overall contribution to high school activities and service to the NSAA.
The NSAA noted Kristensens longtime support of its state speech, golf and cross country championships hosted at UNK and in Kearney. He has volunteered and served in numerous capacities at the Nebraska State Golf Championships for many years and is a rules official for the Nebraska Golf Association.
Among the others, Kristensen was recognized for his active leadership in numerous local, state and national civic and professional organizations, including the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators High Education Committee of 50.
Kristensen has been chancellor at UNK for nearly 16 years, a position he took after serving 12 years as a Nebraska state senator for the 37th Legislative District and four years as speaker of the legislature. He also operated a private law practice for 21 years (1981-2002) and served as the Kearney County Attorney (1983-88).
