What many families come to realize when pursuing the selfless act of adoption is the process is long and difficult, but also straps a family in costs. Sharissa and Brandon Sears of Springview, Nebraska are in the last leg of their international adoption of a special needs child in China, diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
About a year ago we were made aware of a little guy that was currently in an orphanage in Northern China. We have always had adoption on our radar and once we saw his advocacy picture we just basically knew we needed to make him a member of our family, says Sharissa.
The two year old boy who was abandoned at only five days old outside of a police station and is being given to the Sears family through the Holt International adoption agency in Oregon.
The Sears family is asking for support from their surrounding family and community members to come to their free-will donation fundraiser on Sunday, April 29 at 2 pm at the Pizza Place in Bassett to help with costs to travel to China to get the boy as well as provide him medical care.
There will be a pizza feed, along with homemade pizzas to buy to take home and bake. The Sears will be serving and selling pizza up until they run out of food, or until people stop coming.
We made three thousand pizzas ourselves, our church group and community volunteers, says Sharissa.
Volunteers were from the community of Springview and from the New Hope Community Church in Springview, and the Burton Assembly of God in Burton.
The boy will be turning three in May, and the Sears family has been in process for his adoption for over a year.
Sears had mentioned, He needed a home and we felt called to be that home for him. We fell in love with him.
