Burwell, NE — The Central Nebraska Economic Development District (CNEDD) held a meeting in Burwell, Nebraska on Tuesday, May 15 at The Sandstone Grill. The meeting consisted of CNEDDs Board of Directors and Council of Officials. Present at the meeting: Cora Calkins of Page, Cecil Burt of Broken Bow, Marilyn Mignery of Wheeler County, Vicki Vannier of Bartlett, Linda Green of Chambers, Nikki Schwanz of ONeill, John Madsen of Stuart, Ed Brown of Long Pine, Karla Costello of Greeley, Larry Griffith of Sherman County, Kyle Kowalski of Loup City, David Sawyer of Burwell, Lou Ann Tooker of Atkinson, TJ Ellermeier of Rock County, and Judy Petersen, Chelsea Luthy, Letisha Tielke, and Rachel Flannery of CNEDD.
During the meeting, the representative reviewed the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) plan that CNEDD must administer every 5 years. The plan uncovers opportunities, risks, strengths and threats within the area.
A motion was made by John Madsen and seconded by Ed Brown to approve the CNEDD 2018 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) as amended and to approve submittal of the CEDS to the Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration for review and approval.
A voice vote was taken; all present voting aye and the motion was carried. Comments and suggestions for updates were provided by Rocky Richards from Cody and Ed Brown from Long Pine, which were made part of the motion to approve and submit to EDA. The Annual Conference will be held in the Fall in Broken Bow, NE.
The members suggested asking Rebecca Schademann to speak on community improvement plans and educate the communities on procurement and how CNEDD can help with this by doing the general administration of the grant.
Other topics of interest were land banking, and having a panel of funding sources.
