Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Courts 5-4 decision in Janus v AFSCME that mandatory dues to government unions violate the free speech rights of public servants.
“Today was a victory for the First Amendment, and a victory for the rights of workers to make their own decisions about who speaks for them and which organizations they choose to pay dues to. Anyone who thinks that Americans need to be persuaded to have money taken out of their checks, rather than compelled to do so against their wishes by government unions, should applaud this decision. If you want someones support, make an argument not a mandate.”
