(Ord, NE) Scratchtown Brewing Company brought home another Gold medal this summer at
the US Open Beer Championships, held in Oxford, Ohio. The US Open is the nations second
largest annual beer competition and one of the most competitive. Black Eye Imperial Porter was the beer awarded, leading its category now for four years.
Breweries from South Carolina to South Korea sent in more than 6,300 beers representing more than 110 different styles for the 2018 U.S. Open Beer Championship. The competition is the only one to include beers from professional breweries and award-winning home-brewers, with judges from England, Canada and the United States.
Americas largest and most respected craft breweries competed in the US Open, making the win even sweeter for the owners and employees at Scratchtown. Scratchtown has medaled the past four years in a row, taking three golds (2015, 2017, 2018) and one silver (2016).
All judging of the event was done blind, meaning the origin and name of the beer tasted is
unknown. Beer is judged on a number of aspects and scoring is completed by the judges to
determine the winners. Results of this years US Open Beer Championship can be found at
