Newest update: Reports say a house in downtown O’Neill was raided as well.
O’NEILL, NE – An investigation that began at 8:45 AM Wednesday morning quickly turned into a possible immigration raid at the Ventures tomato processing plant north ONeill, Nebraska on HWY 281.
The plant is a 10-acre hydroponic greenhouse complex that produces nearly 250,000 pounds of tomatoes a week that also employs 80 people.
Law enforcement officials surrounded the building with armed officers and it was reported people were being loaded onto a Homeland Security bus that was parked in a nearby parking lot.
According to other reports, it was not the only investigation and search in ONeill for undocumented immigrants.
The Omaha World Herald reports that a state trooper was stationed at the back entrance to a Mexican restaurant in ONeill and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) search warrant was issued at a Mexican grocery store down the street.
This is a developing story. More will be reported as the Nebraska State Patrol and ICE release information.
