BURWELL, NEB. – The Garfield County Sheriff’s office and Burwell Police Department are warning citizens to be extra careful with who they give their personal information to over the phone due to the increase of phone calls recently.
Garfield County Sheriff Larry Donner says these scams can seem legit at times.
Sheriff Donner would like to remind citizens not to give out any type of personal information such as: social security number, bank account numbers and even date of birth. Any kind of sensitive information should not be given to a stranger over the phone if the call seems “sketchy” or you have any kind of uncertainty.
If for any reason you have a loss of money from a scam you can report it to the local authorities who will turn it in to the Attorney General to assist.
