Burwell, NE – For the year 2018, due to the work of 89 volunteers and donations of nearly 12,000 pounds of clothing and shoes were donated to the Clothing Closet in Burwell, Nebraska, to serve over 800 shoppers from 17 counties and two states.
Volunteers donated more than 200 hours of their time to sort, fold, and display shoes an clothing for the convenience of shoppers. Over 8,000 pounds of clothing left the Clothing Closet went home with customers for themselves and family members.
The Knights of Columbus has contributed to the donations by providing funds to the Clothing Closet to help young parents in meeting the needs of purchasing items for the care of babies, infants, and small children.
The Clothing Closet mission doesn’t stop there.
Dave and Jen Busch of Burwell remove clothing from the First Christian Church Toss Box Ministries program that is packed in black garbage bags by volunteers, load their trailer and deliver the clothes to the Lincoln People’s Mission in Lincoln.
From there, the close may then travel to Texas, Florida, and Canada where it is then transported to other countries for distribution to other people.
Toss Boxes are Located in areas across the state of Nebraska. In Burwell, you can find one across the street from the Pizza Palace as well as the First Christian Church.

Shoes that are not used go to various missions such as One Day without Shoes, or Soles for Souls or other mission projects involving shoes.
