BURWELL, NE – Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park will be coming to life on May 4-5 as the 11th Annual Spring Muster will portray daily activities with soldiers, officers and civilians.
Dubbed the “Garrisons of the Frontier: Soldiering on the Northern Plains 1865-1870” will have activities watching:
- Marching and standing guard
- Parade and inspections
- Cannon firings
- Barracks Life and soldier antics
- Laundresses, seamstresses and cooks
Thanks to a grant made possible by one of Fort Hartsuff re-enactors, you can enjoy peanuts and drinks, as well as candle-making all free for visitors, while supplies last.
This year’s spring muster is in conjunction with the Fremont Pathfinders.
“They (Fremont Pathfinders) are just a group of guys that originally started as doing civil war reenactment different times of the year,” says Jim Domeier, Park Superintendent, “They like to come here and do the Spring Muster and gives them a chance to get together, practice their drilling.”
Domeier says the Fremont Pathfinders enjoy doing events like the Spring Muster to educate the surrounding communities what life was like during the years of Fort Hartsuff prime.
Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children 3-12 years old. ALL VISITORS need a Nebraska Park entry permit.
