Creighton Volleyball senior Naomi Hickman has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 1.88 blocks per set in two matches vs. No. 25 Marquette last weekend.
The recognition is Hickman’s third BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolade (also Sept. 4, 2018 and Nov. 25, 2019) to go along with her BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 10, 2019.
Hickman tied her career-high with 11 blocks on Friday in the Bluejays’ 3-2 comeback win over the Golden Eagles. On Saturday, Hickman added four more blocks in three sets vs. MU. For the weekend, Creighton limited MU to .164 hitting.
Hickman now ranks tied for third in program history with four career matches with 10 or more blocks. Three of those milestones have come against Marquette.
Offensively, Hickman also contributed 1.25 kills per set while hitting .364 in 22 swings last weekend. Eight of her 10 kills came in Friday’s victory.
Hickman’s teammate Jaela Zimmerman earned a spot on the league’s Honor Roll. Marquette’s Savannah Rennie took home BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week laurels and Xavier’s Delaney Hogan was honored as the league’s Freshman of the Week.
Now ranked 21st nationally, Creighton (4-2) is idle this weekend and scheduled to return to the court on Feb. 19 for a 1 p.m. contest at No. 25 Marquette.
