In Creighton’s eleventh season as a member of the West Coast Conference (WCC), the Creighton’s Rowing team was picked to finish fifth in the 2021 WCC Rowing Preseason Coaches Poll, announced on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
This is the second time the Bluejays have been picked to finish fifth, the last coming prior to the 2012 season. The coaches poll was selected solely by a vote of the conference’s seven head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams.
The 2020 WCC Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gonzaga had won four-straight WCC titles from 2016 to 2019.
While Creighton is slated to finish fifth, the top four slots in the preseason poll went to San Diego (33 points), Gonzaga (32 points), Loyola Marymount (28 points) and Portland (18 points). Following the Bluejays (14 points) were Saint Mary’s (13 points) and Santa Clara (nine points).
The All-WCC Preseason Rowing Team is made up of 17 athletes from the WCC’s seven member institutions, highlighted by Creighton’s Katie Graham and Gretchen Strobbe.
“I am proud how this team has navigated the past year and very excited to get on the water once the lake thaws,” said Chipps.
