The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an elderly man who was attacked in his home around 7:45 a.m. in the 800 block of S. Nebraska Street. According to the report the elderly man told deputies, the suspect followed him into his garage and broke into his house then the suspect hit the man in the back with the sword. The victim then grabbed a ball hammer and hit the suspect in the head with it. The suspect then fled the home on foot. Authorities then followed footprints in the snow and tracked the suspect back to a nearby residence and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified by authorities as 22-year-old Ivan Saldana of Madison.
