Grand Island – Authorities in Grand Island are searching for a man from Alda accused of fleeing from police and engaging in reckless driving with his son in the vehicle last Friday.
According to the Grand Island Police, officers identified 37-year-old Don Casey Casares, who had fictitious plates, at the Super Saver on West 2nd Street and attempted to apprehend him. Casares then sped away, dangerously weaving through pedestrians in the area. He left the parking lot, racing down 2nd Street and driving recklessly near several hotels.
Casares was eventually apprehended and faces charges including flight to avoid arrest, driving with a suspended license, improper vehicle lighting, willful reckless driving, use of fictitious plates, and intentional child abuse, given that his son was present in the vehicle during the incident.
Additionally, on July 2, Casares had a warrant issued for his arrest related to a separate, unrelated offense.
