Nebraska defensive lineman Vincent Jackson, a redshirt freshman, announced Monday that he will enter the transfer portal and continue his college football career elsewhere. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound player, who has three years of eligibility remaining, participated in 56 defensive snaps and 33 special teams snaps this season across 10 games, recording one tackle against Purdue.
In a social media post, Jackson described his decision to leave as “bittersweet,” expressing gratitude for his time at Nebraska and the support of Husker fans. “Husker Nation, this has been one of the best experiences witnessing such an electrifying fan base. I will forever cherish the memories,” he wrote.
Jackson, originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was a key signing-day flip for Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class after decommitting from Syracuse. Despite only playing organized football during his senior year at Central Dauphin East High School, Jackson received offers from top programs like Georgia, Florida, and Colorado, earning recognition as a high-upside prospect.
At Nebraska, Jackson was third on the depth chart at nose tackle behind senior Nash Hutmacher and junior Elijah Jeudy, who has already committed to returning next season. With the departure of senior Ty Robinson from the defensive line and the return of senior Jimari Butler, the Huskers continue to manage roster changes as they approach the mandated 105-player limit for the 2024 season. Jackson is among the first of what could be several transfers this month, following Monday’s earlier departure of running back Gabe Ervin.
