Gloria Jo Sears, of Burwell passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at Madonna Rehabilitation in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 80.
Gloria Jo was born May 16, 1944, in Burwell, Nebraska to Cecil and LaThene (Neumeyer) Lindsey.
Gloria was a sought-out seamstress and leather crafter. She designed and cut her patterns from scratch. Gloria made everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses. Her love for the rodeo brought her countless customers who hired her to make custom western shirts, chaps, saddle bags, customized leather belts and accessories. Her parents and children were always wearing “fashion by Gloria” matching outfits and knitted sweaters.
At the age of 79, Gloria retired from Loup Valley Machining & MFG, 8 years, and Subconn INC. for 35 years.
Gloria loved her dogs, and she loved to travel. She spent many vacations vacationing with her children all over the country. She was always on the go and loved spending time with “the ladies”, but her most favorite place to relax was outside on their back patio with John and their many beloved dogs! The patio was the place to be. Everyone was welcome and showed up to hang out and party with family, friends and the dogs during all hours of the day.
Gloria spent the summers flower and vegetable gardening then ended the summer canning for weeks. When it was too cold to sit outside, she filled her days working crossword puzzles and playing FreeCell.
She is survived by her life partner of 45 years, John Kovarik of Burwell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Karen Sears of Sherman, Texas and Greg and Karen Sears of Loudon, Tennessee; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Joe LaSack of Burwell; four grandchildren, Kara, Lindsey, Jennifer and Mia; and seven great-grandchildren, Tatum, Lily, Paisley, Olivia, Jayden, Jackson and Evelyn (Evie adorably referred to mom as “Triple G” Great Granny Gloria).
She was as preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and LaThene Lindsey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday, May 16, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Still Waters Funeral Parlor. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate.
