Geraldine “Geri” Warford, of Ord passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the Valley County Health System in Ord, Nebraska at the age of 75.
Geraldine “Geri” was born August 23, 1949, at Elba, Nebraska to Gerald and Barbara (Andersen) Warford. She spent her childhood in Elba and was a graduate of Elba High School.
She settled in Ord and was a carrier for the Grand Island Independent, managing the area routes for the daily newspaper for over 30 years.
She loved golfing, bowling, and playing softball, gathering a devoted group of friends along the way who became like family to her, especially the crew who crowded together at her house to watch Husker volleyball games. She was often seen around town riding her Honda mini bike. She loved reading to the kids during story-hour at the Ord Township Library and making popcorn for the Sunday afternoon movies. For many years she enjoyed eating supper and playing cards on Thursday nights at the Vets Club. Geri was a past Exalted Ruler of the Ord Elks Lodge and was involved in the VFW Auxiliary. Until covid she ran bingo at the nursing home.
Meals with friends orbited around Geri and her flair for storytelling, whether about her visit to Buckingham Palace, or the time her car caught on fire in North Loup – a dramatic rescue just in time, with all those oxygen tanks in the backseat. Boy, she was riveting! To anyone who asked, “What would you like, Geri?” she’d say, “I’d like to be taller.” She joked about “keeping an eye” on things.
Any time she was 76 yards from the green on the golf course, she would sing the chorus of Seventy-six Trombones. There was never a dull moment with Geri, who turned even an emergency room visit into a party. The world will not be the same without our Geraldine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John “Jack” Warford.
All are invited to the Ord Township Library on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. to share their favorite stories about Geri. Private Inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Scotia, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to Ord Township Library. Online condolences may be left at www.ordmemorialchapel.com
