An Arizona man is behind bars after Nebraska State Patrol troopers discovered a significant amount of illegal drugs during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near York.
The arrest occurred Friday afternoon around 3:10 p.m., when a trooper clocked a Nissan Altima traveling at a high speed while heading eastbound. During the stop, a State Patrol K-9 unit alerted to the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of approximately 19 pounds of fentanyl and five pounds of a suspected methamphetamine substance, all found in multiple packaged bundles.
The driver, a 36-year-old man from Arizona, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was booked into the York County Jail.
The city of York, with a population of about 7,700, is located roughly 50 miles west of Lincoln.
