A Lancaster County District Court judge has sentenced a 42-year-old Lincoln woman to 19 to 20 years in prison for her role in the 2023 overdose death of her husband.
Amanda Wright pleaded no contest to manslaughter and was convicted of unintentionally causing the death of 38-year-old Zachary Svoboda. According to prosecutors, Wright provided her husband with a syringe containing a lethal mixture of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Originally charged with first-degree murder, Wright accepted a plea agreement that reduced the charge. In addition, three separate drug charges were consolidated into a single felony for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Eric Miller told the court that on August 23, 2023, Wright sent her mother to her home in Lincoln’s University Place neighborhood. Upon arrival, Svoboda was found dead on the stairway landing.
An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was acute intoxication from both fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Initially, Wright claimed she had left after an argument two days prior. However, she later admitted to giving her husband the syringe and said he collapsed and died immediately after injecting it.
